The 2004 PRIDE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (PIFF) is an international premiere gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual and HIV/AIDS themed digital film and video festival that will present for the first time in the Philippines never-been-seen shorts, documentaries, animations and features from countries like Lebanon, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Brazil, Canada, USA, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia and the Philippines.

The event will take place at the Dream Theater (Tanghalang Manuel Conde) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines on August 21-28, 2004. The festival sponsors include Cultural Center of the Philippines, Kodak Philippines Ltd., Skyy Vodka, The Embassy of Sweden, The Royal Norwegian Embassy, The Canadian Embassy, The Embassy of France, Warner Music Philippines, Ad-Man Resources Inc., Yehey Philippines, Sifra Interiors and Objects, to name a few.

The films and videos to be premiered in Manila have previously participated in international gay and lesbian film festivals such as OutFest (The Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival); The NewFest in New York, USA; The Teddy in Berlin, Germany; Dublin Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in Ireland; the Melbourne, Queer Film Festival in Melbourne, Australia; the London Gay & Lesbian Film Festival in England; InsideOut Toronto in Canada; Austin International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in Texas; the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in Florida; the Pittsburgh International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in Pennsylvania; the San Francisco International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in California; the New Mardi Gras Film Festival in Sydney, Australia; and the Tokyo International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in Japan. Some of these films had also premiered in 2003 at Robert De Niro's Tribeca Film Festival in NY, Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival in Utah, Film Festival Internazionale Di Milano and the Turin International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in Italy. All films and videos that will be screened during PIFF will be its Philippine and Southeast Asian premiere.

The festival will also present for the first time in the Philippines HIV/AIDS educational films such as "Just Like You Imagined," "Nightmare on AIDS Street," "Don't Dance With Death," "He Said, She Said," and "The Monster," all through the support of Scenarios USA, based in New York.

The mission of Pride International Film Festival (PIFF) is to help advocate HIV/AIDS education on awareness, prevention and care through films screenings and its other events before and during the festival. Part of its pre-festival activities include "PRIDE PROGRAMS", an HIV/AIDS video screenings in various schools and universities all over the Metropolitan Manila areas. During these events, the festival and its beneficiary "Positive Action Foundation Philippines, Inc." (PAFPI) will be working together hand in hand to help promote the education needed concerning this disease. As of this date, the participating schools include Assumption College Makati, San Agustin
Makati and St. Scholastica's College in Manila.

PIFF will also donate portion of its overall festival proceeds to PAFPI, to help in their endeavors in fighting for HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and facilitating support responses for the needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS in the Philippines. This will be the first time Manila will have such events, especially right after the recently concluded International AIDS Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The festival highlights will include the Philippine premiere of the Swedish hit film "Show Me Love" by Lukas Moodyson as the Opening Film (August 21); Kodak's presentation "I GOT IT MADE (16, The Number That Works)", with specifed speakers from the film industry (August 28); Presentation of the "Judy" Award to Madonna, and the "Lifetime Achievement and Distinction" Award to Sir Ian Mckellen (August 28); and the Closing & Philippine premiere of "Mambo Italiano" by Emile Gaudreault (August 28).

The festival supporters and contributors include a list of
international personalities including Madonna's publicist Ms. Carisse Henry & her assistant, Ms. Ashley Kraines; the fabulous brother of Madonna, Chris Ciccone; and Sir Ian Mckellen's publicists, Ms. Flavia Coppack & Ms. Clair Dobbs, both of Public Eye Communications in London.

Festival tickets are limited, and is now on sale and priced at 150.00 pesos (regular) & 75.00 pesos (student).
