Cinemalaya Film Festival and Competition at the CCP

New and cutting edge works in digital format by the country’s most exciting filmmakers will be the focus of the forthcoming Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition on July 12-17, 2005 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

Presented by the CCP, the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the UP Film Institute, Cinemalaya will unveil to the public the 6 winners of the short film category and the 9 finalists competing for the plum in the full-length feature category.

Cinemalaya will premiere the following films in the short film category:
“Alimuom” by Rommel Tolentino; “Babae” by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo; “Blood Bank” by Pam Miras; “Kultado” by Lawrence Fajardo; “Mansyon” by Joel Ruiz and “Panaginipan” by Anna Isabelle Matutina. These six films bested over a hundred entries to the competition, which was launched last year.

Competing in the full-length feature are: “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros” by Michiko Yamamoto; “Baryoke” by Byron O. Bryant; “Big Time” by Mario Cornejo and Coreen Jimenez; “Isnats” by Michael Angelo P. Dagñalan; “ICU Bed # 7” by Rica Arevalo, “Lasponggols” by Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez; “Pepot Artista” by Clodualdo del Mundo Jr.; “Room Boy” by Alfred Aloysius Adlawan and “Sarong Banggi” by Emmanuel dela Cruz.

The full-length feature film category finalists were selected from a total of 189 entries and received an initial seed investment of 500,000 from the Philippine Multi-Media Systems. The final winning entry will be given an additional grant of P200,000 plus the Cinemalaya Trophy during the awarding ceremony on July 17 at the CCP.

Cinemalaya aims to discover, encourage and honor the cinematic works of Filipino filmmakers that boldly articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity. It also aims to invigorate the Philippine film industry by developing a new breed of Filipino filmmakers.
