In 17 days, 202 countries fielding 10,500 shall compete in 37 sports.
It's here, all set to engage Filipino sports enthusiasts to one of the greatest spectacles on earth. After news circulating on the impending coverage, the Athens 2004 Olympics comes to conquer Philippine TV via NBN Channel 4 from Aug. 13-29. The once-every-four-year event kicks off with pomp and ceremony on Aug. 13.
For the first time since the first games were held, the Olympics returns to its mother city--- Athens, Greece. The Olympic Games, originally formed as part of the religious festival of Zeus in Ancient Greece, present the world's most important athletic competition. True to its original aim, hostilities among Greek states stopped to give way to the Olympics. Up to now, it aims to promote world peace and foster friendships among participating nations. The Olympics have greatly evolved with its line-up of sports to compete from. The newest addition is the women's wrestling category and women's sabre in the fencing competition.
The Philippine team is also geared for the Olympics with 16 athletes competing in boxing, taekwondo, swimming, athletics, shooting and archery. Leading the pack with high hopes of bagging the medals are boxers Romeo Brin, Violito Payla, Harry Tañamor and Chris Camat.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will distinguish each athlete and mark his country to the long, glorious Olympic history and victors. But before a new Olympic history is set, let's all prepare for the world celebration of the Athens 2004 Olympics made possible by JEMAH Television Inc. and NBN 4
